Guaranteed Income Pilot Info Sessions Planned In Alexandria
A guaranteed income pilot program was approved as part of Alexandria's first American Rescue Plan allocation plan.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — After a guaranteed income pilot program was approved for part of Alexandria's first American Rescue Plan allocation, ACT for Alexandria is planning information sessions.
City Council voted on July 6 to approve a spending plan for the first of two allocations to the city from the federal American Rescue Plan. Part of that plan included $3 million for a guaranteed income pilot program for low-income families. The program would benefit around 150 families with a monthly cash transfer of $500 on a pre-loaded debit card.
"Participants would be supported through case management to help families establish goals, navigate systems, and fully participate in the pilot," states the description in the city's American Rescue Plan funding plan. "A research partner will assist with the monitoring of outcomes and assess the program’s impact. This would provide a comprehensive understanding of if/how participants achieve greater economic stability and the implications for future investments in programs designed to reduce poverty."
