GW Memorial Parkway Construction to Close Ramp at Reagan Airport This Weekend

Northbound airport traffic will be detoured; also look for closures at GW Parkway 395-northbound ramp leading into Washington, D.C.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, the National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration will pave the northbound exit ramp that connects Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to the George Washington Memorial Parkway. The paving work is expected to begin at 7 a.m. and be completed by 7 p.m. During the paving, the exit ramp will be closed. Signs will direct traffic to follow an alternate route.

Additionally, the GW Parkway 395-northbound ramp leading into Washington, D.C. via the 14th Street Bridge will be closed during a portion of the paving project. Airport traffic is encouraged to access 395-northbound from Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1).

In addition to directional signage, Park Service Police will be present to direct drivers through the area to minimize the traffic impact in the construction zone.

The paving work is part of a larger, approximately nine-month project on the GW Parkway and Route 233 bridge, which connects the airport to Crystal City. The project will allow for better access to and from the airport, and add safety improvements to sidewalks and trails for pedestrians.

As the project work is performed over the next several months, drivers should continue to expect single lane closures from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on the Route 233 bridge.
