September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Alexandria Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that our students have the most important school supply of all – a free library card. And now, Alexandria Library has made the sign-up process even simpler with online library card registrations.
A library card provides access to many of the resources available at Alexandria Library. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and services that support academic achievement, and gain access to important educational resources with their library card, like the Encyclopaedia Britannica Online Library Edition database. “Whether students need resources to do homework or special projects, a library card is the most important school supply,” says Rose Dawson, Alexandria Library’s Director. "The library is not just books on shelves anymore," she points out. "For example, students beyond elementary school can take advantage of online textbooks or GED/SAT/ACT test taking databases. Those who have completed their education and are looking for a job can take advantage of career boosters like the Cypress Resume Builder. Library users of all ages havethe ability to choose from thousands of e-books to download from home."
