Holocaust Victims to Be Honored in Alexandria Ceremony
The Alexandria community is welcome to join a ceremony to remember Holocaust victims for Remembrance Day.

(Updated 5:10 p.m. Monday. Due to inclement weather, the event is moved to the Vola Lawson Lobby on the first floor of City Hall.) ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Alexandria will remember victims of the Holocaust April 23 to 30 with a special ceremony in Old Town Tuesday, April 25.
The Holocaust Remembrance Day observance in Alexandria is open to the public at City Hall (301 King St.). This marks the 30th year Alexandria has marked the international day.
The internationally-recognized Remembrance Day falls on different days each year, and in 2017 it is Monday, April 24. The day is on 27th day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar. It marks the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

The speaker at the event will be Robert Siegel who hosts the NPR evening show "All Things Considered" and has reported in Europe.
During the ceremony, Mayor Allison Silberberg and members of City Council will light a candelabrum donated by the late Holocaust survivor Charlene Schiff and her husband, Ed. Schiff donated the candelabrum in honor of her parents and sister and the millions of others that died in the Holocaust. The Holocaust survivor, who was a key part of Remembrance Day, died in 2013.
