La Glebe Mixed-Use Development Considered In Alexandria
The proposed project calls for four residential units and ground-floor retail.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Alexandria Planning Commission will consider a small mixed-use development called La Glebe on Tuesday, March 3.
As the name suggests, the project would be located at West Glebe Road in the Arlandria area. It's the current site of two homes that are zoned for commercial use. 226 West Glebe Road is home to The Groomery on Glebe, and the 228 West Glebe Road property offers landscaping services. The property is across from St. Rita's School and Catholic Church and down the road from a retail strip center and the Mount Vernon Avenue intersection.
The three-level, 10,717-square-foot development would include four residential units on upper levels and retail on the ground level. An 11-space parking lot would be accessed in the rear via West Glebe Road. Retail entrances would be in the front, while the residential entrance would be placed in the southeast corner in the rear.

The applicant is requesting to increase the building height to 45 feet, which accounts for a penthouse. Planned improvements include enlargement of the public sidewalk and landscape strip on West Glebe Road, three new street trees and four new bicycle parking spaces.
If advanced by the Planning Commission, the proposal goes to Alexandria City Council on March 14.
