Major Closures Coming To I-395 Around Alexandria
Drivers should expect lane closures and additional traffic during the weekend work on I-395.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Drivers should anticipate additional traffic pains on Interstate 395 during upcoming weekend construction work.
Beginning the weekend of July 20-22 and for at least six weekends, there will be lane closures on I-395 between the Springfield interchange and the DC line, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The weekend closures, which will be in effect from Friday nights until Monday mornings, are in place as crews repair multiple bridges along I-395, including the Four Mile Run bridge.
The first weekend of closures will happen 10 p.m. on Friday, July 20, through the afternoon of Sunday, July 22. At least two southbound regular lanes will be open during the day, but travel may be reduced to one lane southbound overnight. On northbound I-395, a single left-lane closure will be in effect.

Drivers should seek alternate routes. Those that drive on I-395 should use caution in the work area and plan for additional travel time. The work is related to the 395 Express Lanes project, which is extending I-95 Express Lanes eight miles north to the DC line.
