Man Left Speechless After Alexandria Lottery Win

A man is $200,000 richer after a stop at a 7-Eleven in Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A man had luck on his side when he stopped for a lottery ticket in Alexandria.

Rene Amaya of Washington, DC won $200,000, the second highest prize in the 50X The Money game. He bought the ticket from the 7-Eleven at 421 East Braddock Road.

The lucky winner was left speechless when he scratched the ticket at home. "I turned pale. I couldn’t talk," Amaya told Virginia Lottery officials.

After recovering from the initial shock, he immediately told his wife. He plans to put some of the winnings toward his children's education.

The 50X The Money game features prizes from $20 up to $5 million. Amaya's ticket was the sixth $200,000 prize claimed. Two of these remain unclaimed.

Two of the $5 million top prize tickets have been claimed so far, and one remains unclaimed. The odds of winning the $5 million prize are 1 in 1,876,800, while the winning any prize are 1 in 3.07.
