Mouse Droppings On Shelves: Del Ray Restaurant Violations

ALEXANDRIA, VA—The City of Alexandria regularly conducts health inspections for local restaurants. The frequency of inspections on the type of food served and how it is prepared.

“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” states the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

Here are some of the violations around Del Ray from recent inspections in June. Among the violations were mouse droppings on food storage shelves at Rosemarino d'Italia.

violation: no dates marked for cod, salmon and cut fruit

Flat Top Burger: 529 E Howell Ave., Alexandria, VA 22301, last inspection: June 6

violations: plate of employee food in food prep area, ice scoop stored on drain board on dirty dish side of the sink, tomatoes and heavy cream measured at improper temperatures in food prep area, refrigerator not operating properly

Popeye's: 3402 Mt. Vernon Ave, Alexandria, VA 22305, last inspection: June 13

violations: employees not able to identify symptoms of foodborne illness, chicken tenders not cooked to proper temperature

Rosemarino d'Italia: 1905 Mt. Vernon Ave, Alexandria, VA 22301, last inspection: June 5

violations: food prep cooler not operating at a proper temperature, mouse droppings on food storage shelves

Streets Market & Cafe: 3108 Mt. Vernon Ave B, Alexandria, VA 22305, last inspection: June 9

violations: employees not able to identify symptoms of foodborne illness, employee handling raw shellfish in between other tasks without changing gloves, grime in ice machine
