MV Big Flea Raises More Than $25,000

Annual fundraiser benefits Mount Vernon Community School PTA.

The MV Big Flea raised more than $25,000 for the PTA, according to the updated totals on the Big Flea website.

The event is the PTA’s biggest fundraiser. Donated items for the annual flea market were collected throughout the year. What was left after a was put up for sale Saturday morning.

Deal hunters could pay a $10 early entrance fee to get in on the merchandise at 8 a.m. The sale opened to the public at 9 a.m. Every item was reduced to half-price at noon and everything remaining after 2 p.m. could be taken away free.

, who last week officially transitioned into his new role after serving as an associate principal position at T.C. Williams High School, was on hand to assist with the sale.

The MVCS PTA raised $25,111.87 this year through purchases and donations associated with the Big Flea, surpassing the $25,000 goal. The total may increase as raffle tickets and other donations are added.

Last year, the Big Flea raised $30,619 for the MVCS PTA. With the addition of this year’s haul, the Big Flea has raised more than $118,000 since it started in 2007.
