National Night Out 2019: Find Your Event In Alexandria
Neighborhoods around Alexandria will hold cookouts and block parties for National Night Out.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — City agencies and neighborhoods around Alexandria will participate in the 36th annual National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event held in communities around the country.
At least 37 neighborhoods and groups in Alexandria will turn their porch lights on and host block parties and cookouts in support of National Night Out. City Council members, City Manager Mark Jinks, Police Chief Michael Brown, Acting Fire Chief Corey Smedley, Sheriff Dana Lawhorne and other city officials will take part.
The Alexandria Police Department's K-9 Unit, Motor Unit, Bike Patrol, Command Bus, Armored Personnel Carrier, and Crime Scene Mobile Lab will tour neighborhoods and put on demonstrations. Alexandria Fire Department engines and fire trucks will also visit various neighborhoods.

Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), National Night Out aims at bringing awareness to crime prevention, generating support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, boosting neighborhood pride and partnerships with law enforcement, and sending a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back.
