National Night Out Events Planned Around Alexandria In 2022

National Night Out, which promotes crime prevention and law enforcement-community partnerships, will be held at locations around Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Neighborhoods around Alexandria will head outdoors for cookouts and block parties for National Night this upcoming Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

National Night Out is a nationwide event promoting law enforcement relationships with the community and crime prevention awareness.

The Alexandria Police Department, Alexandria Fire Department, Alexandria Sheriff’s Office, city officials, and other city agencies will participate in the city's events. The police department's K-9 unit, motorcycle unit, bike patrol, command bus, and crime scene mobile lab will tour neighborhoods and give special demonstrations.

"National Night Out is a fun evening for all. Our agency believes in community policing and National Night out gives us a chance to celebrate our success in working together to reduce crime and improve the quality of life throughout our city," said Police Chief Don Hayes in a statement. "I look forward to seeing everyone in the community.

Since 1984, communities across the country have held National Night Out events on the first Tuesday of August. According to National Night Out's website, thousands of communities in all 50 U.S. states and additional territories participate.
