Irish Maid Cleaning Service is the business of Shirley Waller, co-owner of the closed Nectar Coffee and Wine Bistro.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Shirley Waller and her sister used to operate Nectar Coffee and Wine Bistro in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood, offering a taste of their Irish heritage. But when that closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, Chef Thomas Cardarelli's Stracci Pizza opened in its place.
Waller is still sharing her Irish spirit in Del Ray, albeit under a different business: Irish Maid Cleaning Service. She started out house cleaning after immigrating to the U.S. from Ireland in the 1980s. Today, that work continues as she lives and works in Del Ray.

When and how was your business opened?
When I immigrated to the US from Ireland in 1986, I started house cleaning with my sister-in-law. We then opened our own cleaning service. I worked both my cleaning business and in restaurants since. I used to own Nectar Coffee and Wine Bistro on Hume Ave which unfortunately closed in 2020 due to Covid but now I focus solely on house cleaning.

What is your favorite thing about the community your business is located in?
I both live and run my business in Del Ray. I love this community, the fact it's so friendly, dog friendly and we can walk to restaurants, coffee shops and small businesses. I am all about supporting local businesses since that's what I have had all my life.
Is there any recent news at your business you would like to share with the community?
I would like to share that Irish Maid has wonderful staff who mostly live in Alexandria and provide an excellent service.
