Truck Hits Power Line, Causes Widespread Alexandria Outages

More than 6,400 were without power in Alexandria Tuesday as a heat advisory was in effect.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—More than 6,400 residents are without power Tuesday in Alexandria as scorching temperatures continue to linger.

According to Dominion Energy's outage map, the outages are mainly in Del Ray and the West End. As of 12:15 p.m., 4,743 customers were out around Del Ray and 1,507 in the Taylor Run area. Report outages by calling 866-366-4357.

Dominion Energy is responding to the outages, which were caused by a truck snagging a power line. In a 2 p.m. update, Dominion said most of the 6,400 will be restored soon and 380 others will temporarily be without power as crews work. By 4 p.m., Del Ray outages were fixed, and 381 remained without power in Taylor Run.

The outages occured as Alexandria is under a heat advisory from the National Weather Services. High temperatures will be around 97 with a heat index as high as 109. Alexandria Police urge residents to check on neighbors that may have lost power and air conditioning and to head to public spaces with air conditioning.

Police are directing traffic or putting up stop signs at dark intersections. Traffic light outages can be reported to police at 703-746-4444.
