Police Make Second Arrest in Four Mile Run Park Homicide

An earlier arrest was made, in January, in the homicide of Eduardo David Chandias Almendarez.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Alexandria Police announced Wednesday that they have made a second arrest in connection with the homicide of Eduardo David Chandias Almendarez, who was found deceased in Four Mile Run Park Dec. 4, 2015.

Boris Rosa Castro, 19, of Fairfax City, was charged with Murder, according to Alexandria Police. He is being held without bond.

On Tuesday, an off-duty Fairfax City police officer observed the suspect while driving to work, Alexandria Police said. He recalled that the suspect was wanted in relation to a homicide case in Alexandria. The officer immediately contacted on-duty personnel, who responded and detained the suspect.

“Collaboration between area departments is key in stopping crime,” said Chief Earl Cook. “This is a great example that officers such as this one are never truly ‘off-duty’ and continue to look out for the communities in which they work. The Alexandria Police Department extends our deepest thanks to Fairfax City Police for their assistance in apprehending a dangerous suspect.”

Edwin Alexander Guerreo Umana, 18, of Arlington, was charged in January with Murder in the case. He is being held without bond.
