Poll: What Olympic Event Are You Looking Forward to Most?

London Games are just a week away.

The London Summer Olympics officially get underway with the opening ceremonies on July 27 and we want to know what events Alexandrians are most interested in.

Are the track and field events the biggest draw for you? Is it the gymnastics or swimming competitions that get you excited? Maybe you like watching the pros compete at the Olympic level in basketball or tennis? Or maybe it’s something a little more off the radar like weightlifting or the canoe slalom?

Locally, Alexandrian . The graduate picked up the sport after a chance encounter with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video at a kiosk at Landmark Mall, according to The Washington Post. Jennings’ preliminary round competition is Aug. 9. Patch will get you info on how and when to watch when the time comes.

Any other local connections at the London Games? Well, from the D.C. professional ranks, Washington Wizards big men Kevin Seraphin and Nene will be competing for France and Brazil, respectively. Washington Mystics assistant coach Jennifer Gillom will be on the sidelines with the U.S. women’s basketball team and D.C. United midfielder Andy Najar, a former Edison High School standout, was named to the Honduran national soccer team that qualified for a third straight summer games. Defender Becky Sauerbraunn of the D.C. United women's team is with the U.S. soccer squad in London.
