The actor was thrown from his scooter when he was struck by a Mercedes in Italy, where he is filming a "Catch 22" miniseries.

LOS ANGELES, CA — National treasure George Clooney is recovering today in Italy after he was hit by a Mercedes, sending him flying over the top of his scooter.

The 57-year-old actor didn’t suffer any broken bones when he was thrown from his scooter, but doctors will continue to monitor him. Clooney told police he was "fine" and will resume work on a miniseries production based on the WWII satire Catch 22 after a couple days of recovery.

According to CNN, the driver of the Mercedes hit Clooney after failing to stop at a turn in Olbia on the island of Sardinia. Giovanni Mannoni, the police commander at the scene, told CNN the crash happened at 8:15 a.m., and Clooney was rushed to the Giovanni Paolo II hospital in an ambulance under police escort. Scans showed no breaks, and he was released in less than two hours. However, hospital staff will continue to monitor the Ocean’s Eleven star on an outpatient basis.
