Scarecrows Left In Alexandria Baseball Field Shock Resident

For one Alexandria resident, it's a disturbing image months after a gunman opened fire on a baseball practice nearby.

(Updated) ALEXANDRIA, VA—Months after a gunman opened fire at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park, Del Ray residents woke up to a disturbing scene Monday. A number of scarecrows were left at Colasanto Park (Commonwealth and Mount Vernon Avenues in the Del Ray neighborhood). But it turns out they're just remnants of last weekend's Art on the Avenue.

City spokesman Craig Fifer told Patch in an email the scarecrows were removed Monday afternoon.

One resident saw it as a disturbing image after a gunman shot a number of people in this neighborhood. This incident also comes a week after 58 people were killed in Las Vegas, the largest mass shooting in modern history.

The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous encountered the scene, which is next to Mount Vernon Community School. The scarecrows are scattered around the field, including along the fences.

The resident believes the scene needs to be cleaned up immediately, regardless of where the scarecrows came from.
