'Unmask Your Superhero' For First Thursday Festival In Del Ray

Del Ray's June First Thursday is for the everyday superheroes and dreamers alike. The "Unmask Your Superhero" themed street festival will happen June 7 from 6 p.m. to dusk along Mount Vernon Avenue.

The festival will feature live music from the Janna Audey Band, an interactive public art project debut from We Live Big, themed activities, and more. The event is free and open to all.

Every month, the street festival benefits a different local cause. This month's nonprofit is Blessings in a Backpack, which provides food for elementary school children in Alexandria who might otherwise go hungry. Needed items include single-serving packs of oatmeal, canned tuna and canned chicken. Donations will be collected at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square (Mount Vernon and Oxford Avenues.

Held the first Thursday from April to September along Mount Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, First Thursday is a series of free outdoor street festivals that bring the community together around a fun theme, benefiting a local nonprofit.

The event is sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association.
