Second Water Main Break Reported in Area

UPDATE Thursday 10:15 a.m.: There is a second water main break in Alexandria Thursday morning, in the 200 block of W. Masonic View Avenue, according to American Water spokeswoman Samantha Villegas.

“The number of homes without water is expanding,” she said.

It also appears that homes affected by the first water main break on Russell Road will be waiting longer for water services as the pipe break is not repairable, Villegas said. Instead, crews will be replacing the pipe.

Activities were cancelled at Maury Elementary School due to the water main break.

An estimate by work crews on how long the pipe replacement on Russell Road will take or the pipe repair on W. Masonic View Avenue was it should be completed sometime “this afternoon.”

Patch will update with new information later Thursday.

The City of Alexandria warned Thursday night that Russell Road is closed from W. Oak to W. Masonic, due to a major water main break.

“Related road closures and water outages may last into Thursday, so please avoid the area if possible,” the City noted.
