Wegmans, Harris Teeter, Giant: New Year's Grocery Hours In VA, DC

VIRGINIA— It's New Year's Eve and you overlooked soft drinks for the designated drivers at your gathering. Or maybe you have chips, but no dip. Perhaps family and friends are gathering in front of your big-screen TV to watch the New Year’s Day bowl games and there's a shortage of blue cheese to dip hot wings in. No worries: Several grocery stores, including Wegmans and Giant, in northern Virginia are open on Dec. 31, 2018, and Jan. 1, 2019.

Some local stores may observe special holiday hours on New Year’s Eve 2018 and New Year’s Day 2019. Be sure to call ahead to make sure the doors aren’t locked when you arrive to pick up your party goodies.

So these are the hours for DC and northern Virginia grocery stores on Dec. 31, New Year's Eve, and Jan. 1, New Year's Day, plus links to their websites. The status for grocery chains is taken from their websites and emails to Patch.

Grocery Store Hours

• Wegmans Food Markets: Stores will close at 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Jan. 1 for normal hours.
• Food Lion: Regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
• Safeway: Locations will be 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and open regular hours on New Year’s Day.
• Giant Foods: Most stores close at 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and reopen at 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
• Harris Teeter: Stores open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
• CVS: Stores open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
• Whole Foods: New Year's Eve: Open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; New Year’s Day: Open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• ShopRite Supermarkets: Most stores remain open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, though some may observe limited hours. Call ahead to get your store’s hours.
• Fresh Market: Open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve; open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
• MOMs My Organic Market: Open normal hours on New's Year Eve and New Year's Day.
