What's Open, Closed During Bomb Cyclone In Alexandria

After the bomb cyclone hit the Alexandria area, only certain services are open Thursday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—In the midst of the bomb cyclone hitting the East Coast, the region remains under a wind chill advisory until noon Friday as chilly temperatures and gusty winds remain a concern after the snowfall. Some services in Alexandria have closed for the day due to the snow accumulation and winter weather conditions.

While Alexandria City Public Schools closed for the day, government offices remain open, although some staff are on leave for the day. Services typically open are operating as of 10 a.m.

City of Alexandria Offices: Open. Some employees have been granted unscheduled leave or are working remotely. Emergency services will run as usual.

Schools and Administrative Offices: Closed.

Courts: The Alexandria Circuit Court Clerk's Office, the Alexandria Circuit Court, the Alexandria General District Court and the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (520 King St.) are closed.

Animal Shelter: Operating on a two-hour delay. The shelter will be open to the public at 11 a.m. and for adoption visitations at 2 p.m.

DASH Bus: Transit is operating on a normal schedule, but expect delays. Visit www.dashbus.com for more information.

Emergency hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the child protective services hotline at 703-746-5800; the domestic violence hotline at 703-746-4911; the emergency services for mental health or substance abuse crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; the adult protective services hotline at 703-746-5778; and the sexual assault hotline at 703-683-7273.

Libraries: All open except Law Library.

Metro: Metro is running, but some bus routes may be affected. Check www.wmata.com for your route.

Rec Centers: Opened at 10 a.m.

Shelter: The winter shelter at 930 North Henry Street is open.
