Cornerstone Dance Initiative presents Dancing Stronger: Strength & Conditioning for Dancers, part of The Cornerstone Workshop Series.
Led by Coralynn Celeste, this professional-development workshop will explore why strength and conditioning are essential for dancers and how targeted resistance training can support stronger, safer, and more sustainable technique. Rather than simply adding more technique classes, dancers often benefit from building the physical capacity needed to support the demands of their training.
Participants will learn about the science behind resistance training, the benefits of strength development for dancers, and how conditioning can be incorporated into classes across a variety of dance styles. Special attention will be given to ballet, a form that often places high physical demands on the body while sometimes neglecting the kinesiology and strength-training principles needed to support those demands.
The workshop will review key muscle groups and movement systems that are especially important for dancers to strengthen, along with dancer-specific exercises that can be used in class, supplemental training, or personal practice. Participants will also briefly discuss the importance of proper fueling and nutrition to support the demands placed on the muscles during training.
This workshop is designed for dance educators, assistant teachers, choreographers, and advanced dancers ages 16+ who want to better understand how strength and conditioning can support technical growth, injury reduction, movement quality, and long-term dancer development.
Dancing Stronger will take place on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 6:30–8:30 PM at The Center for Ballet Arts in Fairfax, VA.
Early Bird registration is $45 through August 19. Regular registration is $55. Participants attending with a colleague may use code DANCETOGETHER5 for $5 off individual workshop registration.
