FAIRFAX CITY, VA — A 37-year-old man is facing robbery and malicious wounding charges after police say he attacked a stranger in a Fairfax City parking lot, stole the victim's cellphone and fled.
Fairfax City police responded around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday to the area of Blenheim Boulevard and Old Pickett Road to investigate the report of an assault in progress.
According to police, the victim was waiting in a parking lot for family members when he was approached by a man he did not know. Investigators said the suspect began yelling at the victim before throwing him to the ground and repeatedly punching him in the face. Police said the suspect then took the victim's cellphone and left the scene.
Officers searched the surrounding area and quickly located a man matching the suspect's description, police said. Investigators said he was found in possession of the victim's cellphone.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.
Police arrested Blair Tyrone Fleming, 37, who is listed in court records as having no fixed address. He was charged with robbery and malicious wounding and was held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
According to Fairfax County General District Court records, Fleming appeared for arraignment on July 13, when both felony cases were continued. Preliminary hearings on the robbery and malicious wounding charges are scheduled for Sept. 23. Court records show Fleming remains in custody.
Court records also show Fleming has two other pending criminal cases filed in 2026. He was charged with disorderly conduct stemming from a June 21 arrest and was released on his own recognizance. That case is scheduled for an adjudicatory hearing on Nov. 23.

In a separate case, Fleming was found guilty in absentia of public intoxication following a Jan. 6 arrest. The court imposed a $25 fine and $127 in court costs after a Feb. 12 hearing.
The charges against Fleming are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
