Fairfax Soccer Coach Charged After Alleged $60K Italy Camp Scam

FAIRFAX, VA — A Fairfax soccer coach is facing multiple felony charges after Fairfax County police say he allegedly collected nearly $60,000 from families by promising international soccer camps that never materialized.

Detectives with the Fairfax County Police Department's Financial Crimes Unit charged Ahmed Mohamed, 31, of Fairfax, with 13 counts of embezzlement and 13 counts of computer fraud following an investigation into an alleged scam involving a summer soccer camp in Italy.

Police said detectives received the initial report through the department's Financial Crimes Online Reporting system on June 25. During the investigation, detectives identified 13 victims who each lost between $2,000 and $12,000.

Alleged Scheme Targeted Soccer Families

According to police, Mohamed created the Sporting Soccer Academy in December 2025 and promoted a travel soccer camp in Italy. Investigators allege he collected money from families by falsely promising travel arrangements, camp registration and lodging.

Police said Mohamed used his employment with the Alexandria Soccer Association to target some of the victims.

Known losses total nearly $60,000, according to investigators.

Arrest Made in Fair Oaks

Mohamed was arrested June 30 in the 4100 block of Monument Court in the Fair Oaks area.

He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with 13 counts of embezzlement and 13 counts of computer fraud. Police said he was later released on his own recognizance.

The investigation remains ongoing.
