Families Receive Help for Grocery Purchases

Assistance League Continues Distribution of Grocery Gift Cards

(Weekend Food for Kids Bags )

Assistance League of Northern Virginia again provided grocery gift cards in July to families at the elementary schools that had received supplemental food bags delivered through the charity’s Weekend Food for Kids (WFFK) program. Distribution of Weekend Food bags (pictured) was suspended when schools closed, but the charity hopes it will be able to resume its WFFK program during the coming school year. Since schools closed in the spring of 2020, Assistance League has distributed $20 grocery cards each month as a way to help struggling families that have been adversely affected by the pandemic, and has continued providing this much-needed support throughout the summer months. Since last April, the organization has distributed about 6,600 gift cards, valued at more than $132,000.

Please consider making a donation to help ensure that Assistance League can continue to help children and their families in such a meaningful way. You can contribute either by using the ‘Donate Button’ on the chapter’s web site (www.alnv.org) or by sending a check to: Assistance League of Northern Virginia, P.O. Box 209, Herndon, VA, 20172.
