Gallery: Robinson Unveils New 8-Lane Track
Robinson Secondary School introduced its new, 8-lane state-of-the-art track at the first football game of the season.
Robinson Secondary School’s track team will hit the ground running on a brand new 8-lane track this year.
The state-of-the-art track was unveiled last week at Robinson’s opening football game. Robinson Track and Field and Cross-Country team members ran a lap to officially open the new track.
“We’re very pleased,” said Tom Lizardo, who is a member of the Boosters Club and is the school's golf coach. He is also helping to implement its capital improvement program for Athletics. “We think it will be the gem of the local tracks.”

The track is years in the making and cost about $700,000 to build, through funds by the Fairfax County School District and Robinson’s Athletic Boosters Club. The Booster Club contributed about $320,000 to the track’s renovations and expansion.
The track’s surface is made of urethane. It was previously a 6-lane track before its expansion. Thee school is looking at hosting state-wide track meets, Lizardo said.

“We are looking forward to aggressively marketing it as a track destination for high school and non-high school events,” Lizardo said.
The school’s track renovations are only a small part of the school’s overall plans to upgrade athletics facilities, said Mark O'Meara, President of the Rams Athletic Boosters Club.
“Several years ago the school was refurbished but the athletic facilities were not, so we are undertaking a very unique program to make these improvements relying mainly on the support of friends, benefactors and the private sector,” Meara said.
