A good Soul

A good friend with out a resume needed

I had a young woman who worked for me for 33 years. I got her with only one reference because my Mom worked as a volunteer at Sinai Hospital and she made

friends with a young woman who was very nice. So Mom asked her if she had a friend who was as nice as her. Mom thought if she had a friend, she would be a nice housekeeper for me for 1 day a week.

She sent Lucille to us one Saturday and Mom was right she thought if Letty was a fine woman, so would Lucille be one.

She stayed with us for 33 years and she became like a family member. She even worked for Mom one day a week too.

She was kind and sweet and honest and when my son was born, I would go out for an hour and she took care of him like he was her own child.

I watched her son grow up too and when my Dad passed on, she came to the funeral and cried with us. Her son came too.

No resumes were needed, just a friend's recommendation.

There is a saying that says "wisdom is the soul's natural food." So is one's judgement when she sees someone who is a good soul and takes her into your home and they become friends.

Even my doggie loved her. She would sit downstairs as Lucille cleaned the family room and followed her around to watch her and when she ironed a few things, of course no one irons much anymore, she sat under the board.

She would sense that Lucille was coming long before the doorbell rang.

When she retired and went to her hometown in Marion South Carolina, we took her to the metro station and my husband and I had tears in our eyes.

I cried recently when I tried to call her to chat, I had not spoken to her for several years after I fell and I was tied up for doctors and physical therapy. I called her son, that little boy who came to my house many years ago. He said she had passed on a few years ago from Cancer. I had thought of her often during those years and wondered if she thought of me and my family. He sent me photos of her outside of her home there and also outside of the church. She was smiling as she always was when she worked for me.
