I Want To Marry You Again
A nice story on marriage and a sweet song that will make you smile
There is a song I love. I heard it at a wedding not long ago. It starts with “It’s a beautiful night. Hey, baby, I think I want to marry you.” I think back to 1958 when I was going with my husband. We met on October 12, 1957 on a blind date and after two years of going together, I was waiting for an engagement ring. It happened on December 22, 1959. It was my gift for Chanukah. This was exciting and we were married on July 5, 1960. If that song had been around, I would have had it played at our wedding reception. It stirs me up to want to dance to it and to smile while listening to it. The words are cute. “Is it the look in your eyes? Who cares, baby, I think I want to marry you.” I've heard that you need to put the bad things you encounter out of your mind and then store them in a box and put the box away. Also, I would note that you can do the same with the good events. Put the good thoughts in a box and keep them out so you can see them. I decided to do something different. When I wake up in the morning, I take a pad of paper and I write down the occurrences that could happen that day. Last Friday, I did just that. I have been having trouble with pain in my knees and so recently I was scheduled to get a second shot in the right knee. So I took my pad and wrote down: 1.Get the Shot 2. Feel better 3.Package is coming with a picture put on a canvas I had made from a photo I have from the Carson Scholarships Banquet. 4. I am writing for Fairfax Station now and it is a delightful happening 5. Only 8 or less until spring may arrive 6.A package of some skirts I bought was going to be delivered 7.My daughter-in-law was going to get a framed picture of my grandchildren she had it put on canvas, too, to give to us for our presents for mom's day and father's day coming up in a few months. 8. My favorite soap opera was going to have something awful happen during a wedding on the show which we knew in advance was probably going to happen. 9. Last and not least, I got a message that the regional manager and editor of lots of Patches wrote a complimentary email to me how she liked my article called “A Pair Of Shoes, So Blue So Wonderful” about new and expensive shoes I got from my parents in 1948 costing a lot of money then, 12.95 $ and she also featured me and the article on the front page of Towson.Patch.com. How more exciting can anything be? Her name is Lisa Rossi. Thank you Lisa. This happened a few years ago, but I will always remember the wonderful feeling I got way back then Even if you are expecting a special magazine in the mail, or going to the mall to buy a shirt or blouse, I would put it down as an anticipated or foreseeable episode that I hope will happen. Some things that are expected or hoped for may be simple like the magazine or they could be exciting things like the birth of a new grandchild. You could even envision going to a dance several weeks from now. I have always felt that anticipation is half the delight of something wonderful that's about to happen; whether it is today, tomorrow or six months from now. Dancing has always been my vision, before I learned to dance well, after I danced splendidly and even when I am unable to dance like now due to my bad knees. It is still a delicious thought and also a gift of promise. The song mentioned above states “ Don’t say no, no, no, no, just say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah and we will go, go, go, go.” When I was ‘waiting’ for the engagement ring, I really did not know when it would happen. I kept asking him “do you love me?” He kept saying “I think so, I am getting there.” I was thinking of dumping him because it was over two years since we met and we went exclusively with one another. Then I thought, I have two years invested in this and I was a young girl of only twenty-five. Girls are marrying later nowadays. I know of someone who went with his girlfriend seven years, and another for nine years. Another woman I know told me recently she was with her boyfriend for seventeen years before getting married. I think that song has it summed up. Of course we have been married almost 56 years and lots of couples renew their vows after fifty years. Maybe on or about July 5, 2020 I will say to him “I wanna marry you again, yeah, yeah, don’t say no, no, just say yeah, yeah and we will go, go.” This will be sixty years of marriage plus two years and nine months of going together making it a grand total of 62 years and nine months. Go,Go, I wanna marry you. Again. ———elita sohmer clayman
