Inventory Of Your Mind

Smile, savor, focus, be a hero and craft your life.

There is a new TV show called The List. My last article was about a list and now I discovered online a list of things to do every day and it is listed in a list. All of a sudden, lists are becoming the in thing to do. Here are a few of the topics and they are very interesting thoughts. Perhaps, we already do some of them, some may be new. Find heroes and be a hero. It is easy to find someone who you would like to be like. This person has done something good for mankind and may not be well known. I would not say an actress or actor would be my choice of a hero. Young people probably would list the actor as their hero. Others would think a sports person would be their hero. When I was young, I thought my dad and my brother were the smartest people I knew then. We were brought up to revere smart and intelligent people, not necessarily rich people, but people who used their brain to get to where they wanted to be. Another item on the list was to savor life’s simplest things. This would be I guess to love a rainbow, a sunny day, the beach, a baby smiling at you and especially, if it is your baby or grandchild. I was in the doctor’s office and when I came out to the waiting room, there was this gorgeous blond haired little boy. I guessed his age as five, he told me he was three and a half and his name was Ethan. Of course, that is why he was so handsome; he had the same name as my grandson. Another item on the list was to see the work you do, no matter what it is, that it is a craft. This is a nice thought and so I do that. My work now is writing articles for various online sites. Yes, to me that is a craft and a lady I know who restores for a hobby broken expensive china pieces, calls herself a conservator. She told me when I wrote an article about her and the work she does, that I am a conservator of words. This is a great compliment to me and I accept it. I heard someone on TV in a story I was watching say “I am focusing on what I have and not on what I may have lost. I am a rich lady.” So to sum up these lines on a list, I say, Savor life’s simplest things and remember that you are a crafts person because you are a keeper, a conservator in whatever you do. Find a hero to emulate and someone will find you, to do the same and focus on what you have, not what you may have lost along the way, that probably was not that important and the last one was to sometimes, smile at a stranger and see if he or she smiles back. Either way, you have smiled and this is good for your mind and soul. Savor, smile, focus, be proud of your craft and become a hero to yourself. The word list means an inventory. Take an inventory of your life and you will be surprised at all of the really nice things you have accomplished so far. ELITA SOHMER CLAYMAN
