Let's Pretend And Listen To The Radio

Have you ever just listened to the radio all day long

When I was about eleven, on Saturdays, we listened to a special program for kids, boys and girls alike. It was called Let's Pretend and it was a story, different each week and all about nice happenings or the content was about pretending to something just made up. It was a fun story and you could just imagine what was going on. You see, in those days, you had to use your mind to imagine what was happening, what they were wearing, what was said and how many people were talking.

It was well acted and the voices were so good, after one week, you recognized who was who. It was a great way for a small kid to get your mind and your imagination mode working. It was usually on about 12 so you could eat your lunch and enjoy both.

George Foreman, the boxer said the other day " I get up in the morning and the first thing I do is put on my shoes and my feet are on the floor and I know I am up and ready to go."

On Let's Pretend, you can pretend you are on the stage and you are the actors in the acting area and doing your thing as a famous actor saying the words written for you and you are all dressed up in the costume of the day and everyone is so excited to watch you in the play. I would put on my good weekend shoes and prance around the kitchen floor where I was the main actress named Esther Elita who was the main character in the show.

The applause was overwhelming and it was only 23 minutes long, loaded with food commercials. If you were lucky, it was a continued play and it was ended until next week for a new episode.

You have embarked on a new venture and it was cute to be a performer.

Sometimes, a cousin came over and he would play he was the male performer and my Mom would give us both sandwiches to eat between the commercials.

This was an inexpensive few hours, costing no money but a lot of fun.

Times were so simple in those days, we never thought ourselves deprived, we thought ourselves so lucky to have good parents, one sibling, no dogs for pets in those days, no one had one and so we were in style in those days. We had a Monopoly game and it was good for the mind and for the ego.

As was said "Love never boasts and it is always kind." We were satisfied with all we had and were never envious of others.

Love of our parents to us was indeed a many splendored love and it was always there for us kids.
