Love To Love You Baby

Donna Summers' song sang when we went Disco dancing at a dance hall

A short remembering of Donna Summer who made this Disco dancer happy to dance to her song When we first learned to ballroom dance in 1977, Disco had just hit the ballroom dance floors of the world. We took the Hustle dance that was Disco and learned the very difficult steps. They were hard to comprehend and the beat was difficult to manage. We did do it and each and every week, my mom would come over from her job with the State Of Maryland to be with the children. We would go to a dance hall called The Electric Circus on York Road near Towson University. We would eat a light dinner there and dance in between courses the Hustle dance. The music was nonstop and people got up to dance, sit down to eat or nosh and go back to dance again. The songs did not end, one blended into the other. They played a lot the Donna Summer hit disco song Love to Love You Baby practically all night long. Those were the days when we were young and could dance for hours without injuring our feet or knees. Everyone was smiling and happy to be there and they had the disco ball ornaments turning around constantly from the ceiling. I loved the ball ornaments so much, I bought one and had it on a stand in my family room and loved to watch it revolve with its different bright colors moving too. Disco was very popular for many years and there were lots of disco dance halls around the country where people could dance the Hustle dance to the disco music and stay for hours doing it. Eventually it passed on and hardly any of the Disco Night Clubs continued. Now at a dance, they will play a Disco song once or twice an evening of dance. Many people get up and try to dance to the beat and if they have not had some coaching in it; find it still hard to do. Others have perfected it and enjoy the dancing image they show when performing it. I remember those Electric Circus nights vividly. If you had a bad day at work or home, or even did not feel too great physically; when you got up to Hustle dance, all your troubles and aches and pains disappeared. I loved going there to be a part of the dance scene. It seemed about ninety-nine percent of the music played there was Disco. Perhaps, one or two regular ballroom dance songs were fitted in to break all the Disco music. That was it. It was a Disco dance hall and you either danced the Hustle or you did not come there to dance. I will always remember the Donna Summers disco songs and she was called the Queen of Disco. That she was. Thank you Donna Summer for giving us your beautiful renditions of Disco music way back then. You will not be forgotten by the dancers who enjoyed your voice and your movements.
