Motorcyclist Killed in Braddock Road Crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Saturday at the intersection of Braddock Road and Twinbrook Road.
William Tyler Cowherd, 45, of Annandale, died a short while after the 7 p.m. crash, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. This is the 20th fatal crash in Fairfax County this year.
Authorities said that a 63-year-old woman from Maryland was driving a Lexus sedan westbound down Braddock Road when she attempted to turn left onto Twinbrook Road.

Two Harley Davidson motorcycles were traveling eastbound on Braddock Road in the left lane when the Lexus turned in front of the motorcycles, police said. Both men on the motorcycles braked, but could not stop in time to avoid a crash. They both struck the passenger side of the Lexus.
The two motorcyclists along with a passenger were taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Cowherd died from his injuries. The two others sustained severe injuries but are expected to survive, police said. All motorcyclists were wearing helmets.

The woman in the Lexus was not injured. Police said that speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
