He was a decent man, a good husband, a great father and always a smile on his handsome face.
We did not have a lot of money, we had good food, Mom baked like a gourmet baker. Her chocolate cakes were the talk of the family. Everyone always hinted that she make them one. She only gave one of her special cakes baked in a heart shaped pan if she liked them. One cousin was always sick and when she came home from the hospital, Mom asked her what she wanted. She said "Aunt Lea's cake." and
Dad thought I was a gorgeous girl and I had high cheek bones and of course he was right and a bit prejudiced.

When I was about ten, he bought me a small paperback book all about penguins. Oh how I loved the book. I went to sleep holding on it tight.Small things kept us happy and this is the way life was.
Mom bought me nice clothes and they were beautiful. One was a green dress with a belt made out of material that looked like animal prints.

In high school, I modeled for the department store I worked 2 days a week for and this was nice. Sometimes, I was allowed to keep the dress because we got no money. I even produced a show for teens and this was a nice experience and I was allowed to keep the skirt and blouse I had worn.
So all these experiences were great times. Modeling, producing a show at a store called Hechts and having great folks.
So here is to Dad and his penguin book gift to me and to Mom who baked wonderful cakes and wonderful clothes which she could not afford.I will never forget them.
