A New Car Then called A Used Car, So Pretty For 500 Dollars
We felt so rich with Dad driving it down the street to our home and me as the passenger of 14 years old
Dad bought his first car in my lifetime when I was 14 and he was 56. He bought it from his longtime friend Mr Penn of Penn Motors who sold Plymouths and Chryslers. Chryslers being the high priced car and Plymouth being the middle priced car. He paid 500 dollars by check, paid in full. He had saved for it for many years.
The neighbors came out to admire it and he parked it on the side street of our apartment. He pulled up the shade in the dining room so he could admire it as long as the daylight was still there. The next morning he peeked out to see it still standing there and no one had taken it.
Dad had just bought a large fan costing 70 dollars and we needed it, because Mom had a heart attack a few years ago and she needed to breathe easily and a huge fan cooled the dining and living room and the bedrooms.
