Longer Hours at Burke Centre Library Start in September

Patrons can spend a few extra hours at the starting in September.

Thanks to funding from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the library system is now going to be open a few extra hours on Mondays evening and Tuesday morning at Burke Centre Library. New hours start on September 8.

“We are pleased that we can restore many of the open hours lost during the economic downturn. Our library services are important to county residents and now they are much more accessible,” Edwin S. Clay III, director of Fairfax County Public Library, said.

The hours were cut in 2010 due to funding issues. Hours are expanded for both regional and community libraries.

The new hours at community libraries, including Burke Centre Library, Dolley Madison, Great Falls, Herndon Fortnightly, John Marshall, Kings Park, Kingstowne, Lorton, Martha Washington, Oakton, Patrick Henry, Richard Byrd, Thomas Jefferson and Woodrow Wilson:

• Monday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (current hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
• Tuesday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (current hours are 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.)
• Wednesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Thursday 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sunday closed

New hours for regional libraries, which include Centreville library, Chantilly, City of Fairfax, George Mason, Pohick, Reston, Sherwood and Tysons-Pimmit:

• Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
