VA Salon to Offer Dance, Fitness Classes
VA Spa and Salon will offer dance and fitness classes in the new year.
When you think spa, dance classes aren’t the first thing that comes to mind, but in Clifton is hoping to reconfigure your definition of spa. On Jan. 2, the spa will offer fitness, dance and nutrition classes as well as dietary coaching programs. The new additions to the spa are a part of the overall healthy and wholesome philosophy of owner Virginia Buersmeyer.
“When I opened the spa, I knew I wanted to go into the wellness direction. I wasn’t sure where that would lead me, but there seemed to be a need for these classes,” said Buersmeyer.
Nine teachers in two studios across the hall from the spa will start teaching a myriad of classes from hatha yoga to belly dancing and "new mommy" to gentle stretch (geared to the elderly) fitness classes. Registration for fitness classes ends on Dec. 28, though drop-ins are welcome.

A minimum of six people are needed to start a class and each class will max out at 20 people. “They won’t be like those gym classes where you’re packed into a room and don’t know anybody,” she said. “Everybody will know each other here.”
The little ones can join as well. From ages two and up, fitness classes including Mommy and Me Yoga, YogaEd and Youth and Teen Fitness will be available, to keep the younger generation feeling as healthy as their parents.

The spa will start with the fitness-oriented classes to help anyone who fell off their diet lose the winter/holiday weight first and then move into the dance class offerings in February or March. Some of the dance classes that will be available will be Princess Ballet for two to four years olds and Adult Swing. Because of the noise associated with the dance style, no tap classes will be offered.
In addition, nutrition classes are also now available. Buersmeyer said she and her mother are both nutritionists, so she was very excited to incorporate classes and dietary counseling from Patricia Repko into the spa’s offerings. Repko will conduct classes and seminars as well as six-month dietary counseling programs in the new year.
None of the classes, however, will interfere with the relaxation you come to expect at a spa, said Buersmeyer. “We’ve tested the noise and you can’t hear a thing,” she said.
