Police Charge Robbery Suspect, Shoot Dog During Arrest

Incident took place in a parked car in Fairfax Station; arrest was made in Fairfax.

A man was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night in Fairfax Station while parked in a car with several individuals. While placing a suspect in custody later, police shot a pit bull dog that ran out of the house and charged officers. The dog is expected to recover.

The incident began around 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday when a 20-year man was robbed at gunpoint while in a parked car with several other individuals in the 11500 block of Fairfax Station Road. After handing over cash and property, the victim then exited the car and the suspects drove away. The victim then contacted police. There were no injuries.

Following investigative leads, police located a suspect in this robbery at a residence in the 4100 block of Morrisons Way in Fairfax.

The suspect was contacted by phone and he came outside to surrender. While police officers were placing the suspect in custody, a pit bull dog exited the house and charged the officers. One of the officers then shot the dog. After completing the arrest, officers were able to contain the wounded dog and transport it to a local veterinarian clinic. The dog is expected to recover.

This case remains under active investigation at this time.
