Robinson Sports Roundup: Basketball Team Nabs Two Wins

Boys Basketball (3-1):

After a 1-1 start, Robinson grabbed two victories this past week. The Rams defeated Wakefield 75-54 on Friday, Dec. 2 and South County 70-49 on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Holding just a one-point halftime lead over Wakefield, the Rams exploded for 48 points in the second half. Four Rams scored in double digits: Robert Pillow (16), Jared Steen (15), Tristian Crenshaw (12) and Nate Holyfield (11). All fifteen of Steen’s points came on three-pointers and the team combined to connect on 10 three-pointers for the evening.

In the team’s 21-point victory over South County, Crenshaw and Pillow led the team in scoring with 11 points while Hackett, Steen and Chris Calcador each contributed with eight.

Up next: Robinson is at Lake Braddock on Friday, Dec. 9 for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

JV Boys Basketball (1-0):

The JV boys team opened its season with a 62-46 victory over South County on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Up Next: The Rams host Lake Braddock on Friday, Dec. 9 at 5:45 p.m.

Girls Basketball (3-0):

The Rams are 3-0 thanks in part to Tyler Hansen’s hot hand from behind the arc. In three games this season, she’s already made 13 three-pointers and has scored no less than 20 points in each contest.

In the past week, Robinson defeated Annandale 63-59, Loudoun County 62-44 and South County 59-40. Defensively, the Rams haven’t allowed more than eight points in any opening quarter of play.

Jenna Lamb is emerging as one of the team’s better rebounders. The 5-foot-9 forward grabbed 10 rebounds in the team’s victory over Loudoun County.

JV Girls Basketball: (1-0):

The Rams defeated South County 39-20 on Tuesday, Dec. 6 in their season opener.

Wrestling:

The Robinson wrestling team finished third on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Skyline Elite 8 meet. Each wrestler’s results are listed below:

First place: Austin Riggs (120 lb.), Santiago Valdez (138 lb.), Brooks Martino (145 lb.) and Zac Depasquale (152 lb.).

Second place: Daniel Mika (182 lb.) and Jake Pinkston (285 lb.)

Third place: Lucas Sodergren (113 lb.)

Fourth place: Jonathon Simmons (170 lb.)

Fifth place: Zach Isreal (160 lb.)

Sixth place: Ralph Mpanu (126 lb.)

Eighth place: Jerry Collendar (195 lb.), Greyson Olimpo (106 lb.)

Ninth place: Sergio Escobar (132 lb.)
