Things To Nourish Your Soul

Your soul can be soothed easily

I saw this on my nephew Michael's Facebook. He said "things to nourish your soul." I loved it.

My Dad always said things like this. He said today is good, tomorrow will be better and the next day will be excellent. He meant it and he lived by it. He never said anything mean.

He had one dimple on his face. I used to push my face and tried to make me a dimple like him. It never worked.

Mom was a gourmet cook long before Rachael Ray came on the television scene. She could take inexpensive vegetables and make the best veggie soup, better than Rachael's soup. She baked the most yummy chocolate two layer cakes coated with delicious chocolate icing. All the family always hinted they wanted one. It was too expensive to always being given orders for her food. She could not afford it, now and then but not constantly.

They never reciprocated or brought something for dinner if she invited them for a holiday. Dad loved her cooking, she made the best stuffing for a turkey holiday. It was a secret between her and me. Now I make that stuffing. I do not tell the ingredients, it is different than most people make. One of her recipes for Mondel Bread Cake is also a secret.

When a cousin was sick and coming home from the hospital, Mom asked her what she wanted. Aunt Lea, make me one of your chocolate special cakes she said.

I always kidded her that one day she and I would have a television show with all her recipes. It would be called Grammie and Daughter Cooking Delights.

These delights were certainly "things to nourish our soul."

Oh Mom and Dad I miss you so. It has been a long time, he is gone 50 years and she is gone 30 years. You always nourished my soul with all you gave me and your encouragements on life.
