WASHINGTON REDSKINS ALUMNI & WALKING WITH ANTHONY 2ND ANNUAL CHARITY CELEBRITY GOLF TOURNAMENT & DINNER
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22nd AT THE COUNTRY CLUB OF FAIRFAX Former Washington Redskin Doc Walker Will Serve as Emcee

Walking With Anthony, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of spinal cord injury (SCI), and the Washington Redskins Alumni are teaming up to present The 2nd Annual Charity Celebrity Golf Tournament & Dinner at the prestigious Country Club of Fairfax, in Fairfax, Virginia on Monday, September 22, 2014. The 2nd annual fundraising event, which will benefit those affected by spinal cord injury, begins at 9:30 a.m. and will feature a wonderful day of golf alongside Washington Redskins greats and other legendary sports celebrities and VIP guests. Congressman Steny H. Hoyer will be honored, at the dinner reception held immediately following the golf tournament, for his extensive work with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Former Washington Redskin and local ESPN 980 radio personality, Rick “Doc” Walker, will serve as the emcee for the dinner. The day will culminate with a dinner reception at 5:30 p.m. The organization will be honoring Congressman Steny H. Hoyer, one of the leaders who worked diligently to get the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) passed in the House of Representatives. Signed into law in 1990 by President George H.W. Bush, the ADA has enabled millions of Americans to enter into the workforce and achieve independence. In addition, Hoyer, the House Democratic Whip, played a major role in the ADA Amendments Act in 2008.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from the 2ND Annual Walking With Anthony & The Washington Redskins Alumni Charity Celebrity Golf Tournament & Dinner will benefit Walking With Anthony, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the impact of SCI, raising funds to provide financial assistance for SCI victims, expanding rehabilitation centers, and supporting research relating to SCI rehabilitation. Walking With Anthony was inspired by Anthony Purcell who became disabled after a diving accident in Miami Beach. Determined to beat the odds, Anthony quickly began intense rehabilitation which helped him get stronger, healthier, more independent, and closer to his goal of being able to walk again. As a result of his experience, Anthony and his mother, Micki Purcell, created Walking With Anthony, a foundation to help give others with SCI the same chance at recovery. In addition to honoring Congressman Steny Hoyer during the dinner reception, Walking With Anthony will present a financial grant to a local spinal cord injury victim so they may get healthier, stronger and gain independence.
