WATER 4 KIDS INTERNATIONAL "WALK 4 WATER 2-MILE" EVENT RAISES FUNDS FOR WELLS IN AFRICA

American Girl: walks a few feet to a faucet to get clean water. African Girl: walks almost 2 miles, each way, just to get dirty water.

WHAT

More walkers are needed for the 1st Water 4 Kids International (W4KI) “Walk 4 Water ” Fundraising Event.

Local residents from New Hope Church in Lorton organized a Water 4 Kids International Walk 4 Water event after traveling to Uganda with Hope 4 Kids International (H4KI), where they witnessed the horrific condition of the only water villagers are able to access. Compelled to make a difference, this distance of this event represents the length that women, and most often young girls, in Africa walk each way to fetch contaminated water for their families. On average, 26% of an African child’s day is spent collecting water, a life necessity that robs them of their safety and health, as well as their future.

This event is to raise funds to drill a well in the Ugandan village of Natihalo #1 where villagers currently walk 10-kilometers (one-way) to an open pond, which is a breeding ground for water-borne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and dysentery.

Over the past seven years, events held like this around the country have helped raise enough money to drill over 340 wells in East Africa. These deepwater wells, at a cost of $10,150 each to drill, can provide access to safe water to nearly 10,000 people.

Water 4 Kids International (W4KI), a division of Hope 4 Kids International, brings hope to disadvantaged children affected by extreme poverty and preventable diseases. Many deadly, oftentimes treatable, diseases result from drinking from unclean water sources. W4KI responds by drilling deepwater wells in remote villages throughout East Africa and Central India. Clean water is one of the best ways to prevent diseases in remote villages in which an ailment such as diarrhea is often fatal. We strategically drill wells in communities close to primary schools, medical clinics, and trading centers.

Hope 4 Kids International is a Christian nonprofit organization whose mission is to restore hope around the world by empowering kids to break the cycle of extreme poverty. Our comprehensive approach addresses the whole person – spirit, soul and body – to not only meet urgent needs, but also to create lasting life transformation.
