What was a COW doing at Celebrate Fairfax! Last Weekend?

Learn how AT&T helped prepare the Celebrate Fairfax! venue for Fairfax visitors!

Everybody had a great time at Celebrate Fairfax! this past weekend as people from across the region headed to Fairfax to enjoy the concerts, carnival rides, festival foods and other fun activities! And there was lots of behind-the-scenes prep work to help prepare the venue for the tens of thousands of visitors.

AT&T constructed a Cell On Wheels (COW) to boost the wireless network as visitors got ready to enjoy Celebrate Fairfax!, one of Virginia’s largest community events. The COW was a temporary enhancement that boosted the network by adding capacity equivalent to multiple permanent cell towers, which allowed spectators to enjoy an improved mobile experience as they shared their favorite moments.

Why does this matter? A massive amount of data-hungry people in the same area can overload the network and hurt your ability to send texts, pictures and update social media. Adding a COW was vital to ensuring that people could stay better connected.

In addition to helping make sure festival attendees could stay connected, AT&T also hosted a booth where visitors learned about innovative new technologies, charged their devices, took commemorative photos and experienced virtual reality with the Samsung Gear VR. The Samsung Gear VR is the latest in virtual reality technology and allowed users to experience 3-D simulations, which was fun for the whole family.
