2020 Memorial Day Parade, Other Falls Church Events Canceled
The stay-at-home order through June 10 means the parade, Mother's Day Tea and other events won't happen this year.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — The City of Falls Church has cancelled this year's Memorial Day Parade and Festival on May 25 and other city events in light of the new coronavirus crisis. The city cited Gov. Ralph Northam's stay-at-home order, which bans gatherings of more than 10 people through June 10. The Memorial Day event typically draws around 10,000 people.
"The safety of our community is our number one priority right now," said Mayor David Tarter. "Honoring our military service members who died for their country has always been the heart of our Memorial Day observances, and we will find ways as a community to honor our fallen in new ways this year."
Other canceled events include Pop-up in the Park on April 18 and May 18; Girl Scout Day at Cherry Hill Farmhouse on April 18; Mother’s Day Tea at Cherry Hill Farmhouse on May 10; Bike to Work Day on May 15; Civil War Encampment at Cherry Hill Farmhouse on May 16; and Life on a 19th Century Farm at Cherry Hill Farmhouse on May 21.

The cancellation through June 10 means no changes to the Fourth of July celebration, at least for the time being.
Tarter joined 20 other DC area elected officials in a joint statement to call for residents to stay home except for essential tasks. As of Wednesday, the Fairfax Health District reported 1,298 coronavirus cases and 29 deaths.
