30 Senior and Retired Volunteers Earn President's Volunteer Award
30 honorees (as a group) volunteered more than 4,000 hours over the past 12 months

The staff of RSVP-Northern Virginia would like to congratulate the 30 RSVP volunteers who have earned The President's Volunteer Service Award this year.
The names of the honorees were announced in a ceremony held in May at Burke Lake Park during RSVP's annual recognition lunch.
RSVP-Northern Virginia (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) will hold a seminar on volunteering in retirement, Tuesday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the American Red Cross National Capital Region office in Merrifield. The one-hour event is free and open to the public.

Several of the honorees attended the luncheon and received their certificates from Volunteer Fairfax CEO Steve Mutty. RSVP-Northern Virginia is a program of Volunteer Fairfax, Volunteer Arlington and Volunteer Alexandria.

The 30 honorees (as a group) volunteered more than 4,000 hours over the past 12 months helping causes that ranged from supporting patients at a hospice to managing one of The Fairfax County Park Authority's farmers markets.
"We are so proud of all of our volunteers," said Rob Paine, RSVP's outreach and marketing specialist, "but these 30 individuals take volunteerism to the next level."
About The President's Volunteer Service Award
According the the official website of the award "The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes, celebrates and holds up as role models Americans making a positive impact as engaged and deeply committed volunteers. The award enables community organizations–as Certifying and Leadership Organizations–to amplify their gratitude by joining with the President of the United States to thank their most dedicated volunteers."
There are three levels of the PVSA, bronze, silver and gold. For adults 26 or better, to qualify for a bronze, a volunteer must have volunteered 100-249 hours in a 12 month period. For the silver, a volunteer must accumulate 250-499 hours in a 12 month span. To earn the gold honor, an individual must volunteer 500 hours or more over 12 months.
This year, RSVP had 25 bronze PVSA recipients, two silver PVSA recipients and three gold PVSA recipients.
