2 Teens Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Falls Church Man At ATM
Fairfax County Police charged two teens with murder in the fatal shooting of Nelson Alexander Sr., 73, of Falls Church.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Fairfax County Police charged two teenagers in the Oct. 20 fatal shooting of a 73-year-old Falls Church man who had stopped at an ATM to withdraw cash before heading to work, the police department said Monday.
Nelson Alexander Sr., who was shot in the chest at a Wells Fargo branch on Annandale Road in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County, died three days later on Oct. 23 at an area hospital.
A 17-year-old, who is currently being held in a juvenile detention facility in Baltimore County, Maryland, on separate charges, has been charged with first degree murder in the fatal shooting of Alexander, police said at a news conference Monday afternoon.

The Fairfax County Police Department is working to have him extradited from Maryland to Virginia. The department is also seeking to have the juvenile — who was 16-years-old when Alexander was fatally shot — charged as an adult. The police said they plan to release the juvenile's name if the department gets permission to charge him as an adult.
Police also have charged Timothy Kashaun Bradshaw Robinson, 19, of Falls Church with second degree murder and robbery in the death of Alexander. Robinson, who was arrested on Friday, was 18-years-old at the time of the fatal shooting.

Alexander was standing in front of the ATM around 5:20 a.m. when he was approached by the juvenile male wearing a mask and carrying a gun. The male was seen on surveillance footage threatening Alexander and making demands before shooting him, the police said.

Fairfax County detectives also discovered that in the early morning hours of Oct. 20, prior to the fatal shooting, a 2009 Nissan Murano was stolen from the 5200 block of Dover Place in the City of Alexandria.
Detectives believe the stolen Murano was seen on surveillance footage captured by the ATM camera shortly after the fatal shooting of Alexander.
At Monday's news conference, officials said Robinson was the driver of the stolen car when the juvenile exited the car and fatally shot Alexander at the ATM.
The two had spent the early morning hours of Oct. 20 breaking into cars, from the Tysons area to the City of Alexandria, according to police. The 2009 Nissan that was stolen in Alexandria was left behind by the suspects a couple blocks from the shooting, where it was found a few days later by an FCPD officer, police said.
Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis and Major Ed O’Carroll, Bureau Chief, Major Crimes, Cyber and Forensics Bureau, said the department received many tips from the public. The department also worked closely with surrounding jurisdictions, including the Metro Transit Police Department, which provided video of the suspects.
Last October, the FCPD said they were looking for three suspects in the fatal shooting of Alexander. At Monday's news conference, the police said they have spoken with the third person in the Metro videos, and they do not believe he was involved in the fatal shooting of Alexander.
At Monday's news conference, Kendra Johnson, Alexander's niece, said everyone loved her uncle, who was known as Uncle Bird to the family. A few weeks ago, the family celebrated what would have been Alexander's 74th birthday, she said.
