FALLS CHURCH, VA -- City crews worked through the night to recover from Wednesday evening’s weather, the City said in a news release. The City and the entire region underestimated the amount of snow and ice, which caused major traffic issues through the DC metropolitan area. However, crews treated and plowed City streets in time for the morning rush hour.

Here’s more information from the City of Falls Church about the coming blizzard forecast to hit the area this weekend:

Now, our focus is on the blizzard. The Public Works crews have four new trucks and 500 tons of road salt. Crews will work around the clock with nine snow plows and spreaders to ensure streets are safe and passable. Street treatment begins once the precipitation starts. Plowing begins when two inches of snow builds on the roads. Snow emergency routes will be treated and plowed first, and secondary streets will be plowed after the snow emergency routes are clear. We will ask for patience as we work to clear snow throughout the City. We will be working hard to make our streets passable.
