Early In-Person Voting Available Now for the November 3 Election

Early in-person voting begins on Friday, September 18 for the November 3, 2020 general and special elections in the City of Falls Church. The ballot includes contests for President and Vice President of the United States, one member of the U.S. Senate, the member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the 8th Congressional District, two amendments to the Constitution of Virginia, and a seat on the City Council. The deadline to register to vote or update an existing registration is Tuesday, October 13. Citizens can apply, update, and check their voter registration status on the Virginia Department of Election’s Citizen Portal: vote.elections.virginia.gov.

As of July 1, 2020, all registered voters in Virginia are eligible to vote either early in-person or by mail, with no excuse needed.

Vote Early In-Person

City of Falls Church voters may vote early in-person at the Office of Elections in City Hall (300 Park Ave.) starting Friday, September 18. The Office will be open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except on holidays, and on two Saturdays, October 24 and October 31, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 31 is the last day of early in-person voting before Election Day on November 3.

Everyone is required to wear a face mask or covering when inside City Hall. Voting booths have been set-up in the main lobby for social distancing purposes.

Curbside voting is available only for voters over the age of 65 or with physical limitations. Call the Office of Elections when you have arrived at City Hall: 703-248-5085 (TTY 711).

Voters are reminded to bring an accepted form of Voter ID, which as of July 1, 2020, includes their Voter Information Notice (aka Voter Card) or a utility bill with their name and registered address on it. Valid Photo IDs - such as a Virginia Drivers License, US Passport, or Employment Badge - are still accepted as Voter ID as well.

Vote By Mail

City of Falls Church voters may request a ballot be mailed to them on the Virginia Department of Election’s Citizen Portal, at vote.elections.virginia.gov. The deadline to request a ballot by mail is Friday, October 23 at 5:00 p.m. Voters who have already requested to vote by mail can expect their ballots to arrive on or before Friday, September 18.

There are three ways voters can return their vote by mail ballots:

1. By mail, via the U.S. Post Office. Postage is paid for return ballots.
2. In-person, at the Office of Elections in City Hall, (300 Park Ave.) open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
3. Drop off at Ballot Box, located outside City Hall (300 Park Ave.) The secure Ballot Box is under video surveillance by the Falls Church Police Department and is available 24 hours a day through November 3 at 7:00 p.m.

Completed ballots must be returned to the Office of Elections by 7:00 p.m. on November 3, or postmarked by November 3 and received in the office by noon on Friday, November 6. When dropping your ballot at the Ballot Box, make sure to include "Envelope B" inside the provided dark orange return envelope.

There are two ways voters can track their ballot by mail:

1. Monitor ballot’s delivery status, including the expected date of arrival and delivery confirmation, via Ballot Scout (link for City of Falls Church voters only).
2. Confirm ballot has been received on the Virginia Department of Election’s Citizen Portal: vote.elections.virginia.gov
