Events Educate Area Residents on New, Novel Aging-in-Place Program
Goodwin House at Home First of its Kind in Metro Area
Falls Church, VA: Goodwin House at Home, a new program designed for individuals in Northern Virginia and DC who want to plan for aging in place as a solution to the traditionally high health care costs common to the area, is hosting three upcoming informational events. Only one of 21 similar programs in the country, Goodwin House at Home is designed for healthy, active adults 55 and older who want to combine the independence of living at home with the continuing healthcare benefits found in a retirement community.
According to new research, 77 percent of those 65 and over in the DC metro area want to remain in their home as they age.
“More than anything, today’s health-conscious seniors want choices so that they can be empowered to manage their health and living situation as they age,” stated Karen Skeens, executive director of Goodwin House at Home. “Our program provides a quality solution to those that want to age gracefully in their home with just enough support to make life easier.”

Participants pay a one-time membership fee to join the program, followed by a monthly fee. As care needs increase, the monthly fees do not.
“It’s like long-term care insurance, but better because it is effective as soon as a member needs help with one activity of daily living, and there are no forms that need to be submitted for cost reimbursement,” stated Colleen Ryan Mallon, vice president of marketing and mission expansion with Goodwin House. “It allows Members to properly plan and protect their financial future, while eliminating the worry of burdening loved ones with the cost of providing for them.”
