Falls Church Police Caution Residents After Daytime Burglaries

Home on Great Falls Street was hit by burglar or burglars on Tuesday during the day. Similar burglaries took place in Arlington.

The City of Falls Church Police Department advises residents to take caution and be on the lookout for suspicious activity after daytime burglaries occured in the City and in neighboring Arlington County.

On Tuesday, between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., a home on Great Falls St. was rummaged. No one was home at the time. Nothing was reported missing, but it was evident that the house had been entered and the suspect(s) had been through multiple rooms looking for jewelry, cash, and small electronics.

Similar cases were reported in the northern portion of Arlington County in September. In those incidents, suspects entered homes in the daytime and stole jewelry, cash, credit cards, and electronics devices. In many of these cases the houses where unlocked and/or a small window was used for entry. These crimes occurred on both weekdays and weekends and in both occupied and unoccupied homes.

The Falls Church Police reminds residents to be vigilant observers in their neighborhood and report anything they deem suspicious. To provide general information, call 703-248-5051 (TTY 711). In the case of an emergency, call 911.

Residents are also reminded to secure all windows and doors when they leave their homes. Simple changes inside and outside your home can deter crime. The City’s Crime Prevention Specialist Officer provides free home security surveys; to schedule, call 703-248-5051 (TTY 711) or emailpolice@fallschurchva.gov.
