Hit-And-Run Kills Pedestrian In Bailey's Crossroads: Police
A vehicle fled the scene of a crash on Leesburg Pike Wednesday night, according to Fairfax County Police.

BAILEY'S CROSSROADS, VA — A pedestrian was killed in a crash in Bailey's Crossroads Wednesday night, according to Fairfax County Police. It was Fairfax County's 17th pedestrian fatality in 2022.
The crash happened around 9:58 p.m. Wednesday at Leesburg Pike and Carlin Springs Road. According to police, a 2017 Infiniti QX60 heading west on Leesburg Pike struck the pedestrian. Based on preliminary investigations, police believe the pedestrian was outside a crosswalk when crossing Leesburg Pike near Carlin Springs Road.
While police initially believed the incident was a hit-and-run, the driver had gone to a parking lot to call for help. Before police arrived, a second vehicle struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene and was identified as Elise Ballard, 40.
Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. The investigation remains active, and the results will be given to the prosecutor's office for review.

Compared to Fairfax County's 17 pedestrian fatalities in 2022, there were 11 at this point in 2021.
